Brief
A youth theatre club is performing a production of Abigail’s Party.
Mike Leigh’s tale of suburban taste is set in the 1970s and explores middle class aspirations and preoccupations.
You will need to acquaint yourself with the play if you don’t know it already,
as they are particularly keen for it to have a 70s feel.
The play will be touring local theatres for a month,
performing every Friday night and Saturday matinee.
Produce
a poster (A3 portrait),
a flyer (A5 landscape, double-sided)
and newspaper advert (A6) to promote this event.
In addition they would like their A5 programme cover to continue the design theme.
For the purposes of this brief you need to invent
dates,
times,
places,
names
and any other information you think will be required.
Use Lorun ipsum text for areas of body text.
Flyer Design
Based on a little research I managed to list the most important information I wanted to have in my flyer design. one side is the design of the event - with the name of the stars, the writer of the play, the back has more information.
When I started to add more information, I have realised it could have been a great idea to add some missing info to the poster, such as tickets sale and the stars of the show.
Layout wise, I was working with stairs- like layout, mainly dividing the screen to 3 or creating a spiral feel.
for example, in the back of the flyer, I was inspired again with Paula Scher's work, which there is a pretty full screen of information, but there are main focus points. in this case, the "tour starts on 1st of September" is the first one, to know when, then the locations and the tickets are second, and all the rest is last, when you know you are free in September and you will be in the location at the right date, and you know where to buy tickets, you can read about the play, and read the exact hours etc...

REFLECTION
I struggeled a bit on this assignment, was definitely not an easy one.
I did a massive research, watched the movie which was actually a good fun, researched visually posters of Abigail's party in the past, theater poster designs, colors, typography, even made my own typeface. then working with Illustrator to refind my typeface, did a number of skillshare courses learned about halftones and how to create a look of screen printing. learned so many new skills on photoshop and illustrator and ended up making few designs.
I really enjoyed the whole process, it was long but again so worth it. I had to solve so many problems along the way but so happy with my final design.
